Happy Birthday Walter Hunt, inventor of the safety pin*.You would be 214 years old.
Do you understand what a big deal the safety pin is?! how did people even deal before that? I mean, this was before velcro (1891), zippers (1914), staplers (1877) disposable diapers (circa 1970?), really sticky chewing gum (1869, though reliable sources** claim people have chewed chewy indigestible things since the neolithic period), or superglue (or cyanoacrylate, 1942)?! HOW DID PEOPLE EVEN HOLD THINGS TOGETHER? ripped seams fallen hems snapped straps unruly diapers awkward zipper moments i can’t get over it. did they just carry around sewing kits, or use straight pins all the time and try to remember not to sit on them?
Walter Hunt’s other acheivements included the fountain pen, an early sewing machine that nobody every used, the firing cock repeating gun, and “artificial stone”… whatever that is.

* Actually, reinventer. The Mycenaeans had it figured out in the 14th century BC.
** Wikipedia. All Wikipedia. I make no apologies, I’m saving up all my real researcher pizazz for the thesis.

Øyvind Tangen is a sailor.
Blue banded iceberg found close to 1,700 miles south of Cape Town and 660miles north of the Antarctic.
Some of the stripes formed when layers of the iceberg melted and refroze. Others were created from the dust and soil picked up when the ice sheet that gave birth to the iceberg was sliding down an Antarctic hillside. Blue stripes are often created when a crevice in the ice sheet fills up with meltwater and freezes so quickly that no bubbles form.

Penguin sweaters, also known as penguin jumpers,[1] are sweaters which are knitted for penguins that are caught in oil slicks.[2] When an oil spill affects penguins they are dressed in knitted sweaters to stop thempreening their feathers and to keep them warm, since the spilled oil destroys their natural oils. This prevents them poisoning themselves by ingesting the oil.
